This is due to sulphur oxides contained in the air, which are released by industrial enterprises in the area of the Great Lakes.  By combining with water in the atmosphere, these evaporations result in acid rains, which destroy architectural monuments. Since winds in this region mainly blow from west to east inscriptions preserved better on the eastern part, and on the western one they are damaged by acid rains.

Grand Canyon is one of the non-official symbols of North America located in the territory of the American state of Arizona. Colorado river water together with wind and precipitations have been “cutting” the giant canyon in mountains during 6 million years. It spreads over 445 km, its width is 29 km and depth – 1,8 km, but its sizes continue to grow to this day.
