Titanic is the most famous ship in the world. It had been built in Belfast from 1909 to 1912. The liner could accelerate to 23 knots (42 km/h). The ship hull was made from steel. The hold and lower decks were divided into 16 compartitions with sealed doors. In case of bottom damage, the double bottom prevented water from entry to compartitions. Shipbuilder magazine called Titanic virtually unsinkable, this statement became widespread in press and public. On the night from April 14 to 15 during the first voyage, it was wrecked in North Atlantic after a collision with an iceberg.
